Map Your Dream Life

Map Your Dream Life

Everyone’s idea of a dream life is different. Some like the beach, some the mountains, and some wherever they are. Also, what you want to do will be different.

However, knowing what your dream life looks like really takes a little more in depth thinking than just “Where do I want to live?” and “What do I want to do?”.

Even more important, if you want your dream life, you need a plan to get there.

If you would like to print a guide for creating a road map to your dream life, you can access one at www.7DailyChoices.com/dream.

Here are the six questions to help you get started:

1.    Where do you want to live?

Starting with where may seem simple, but as families grow and change, and we get older, thinking through all the concerns becomes a bit of a process.

Take time to consider the ramifications of a location on others.

 2.    Who do you want around?

For each of us, there are people who matter. Building a dream life without your favorite people would be hard. So, consider carefully, who do you want to have access to you as you are living out your dream.

Technology has opened many doors that we couldn’t consider before.

 3.    What do you want to do?

While a lifetime of fishing may seem glorious to some. I don’t like fishing. As you consider your dream life, ask yourself if you will have access to the activities that give you life and fulfillment. Can you impact the world the way you feel called to in the place you want to live?

4.    When do you want to get there?

While most of us might say we want to get our dream life as soon as possible, the truth is that over time things change.

My dad loved living in Florida for a while, but in his older years has returned to west Oklahoma, where he finds the openness and familiarity to be a blessing.

5.    How will you get there?

Chris Hogan from the Ramsey Solutions Group consistently reminds people, “A dream is just a wish without a plan.”

The tool provided at the link above is designed to help you think deeper into the questions of your dream, but it will also help you consider, what needs to change from your current circumstances to get you to where you want to be.

If you are not living your dream life now, making the shifts will be harder than you think. Most of us don’t move until the pain of where we are is too great to stay there.

Clarifying your dream will begin to push on your soul but moving will begin to make it reality.

6.    What is your next best step?

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” – Lao Tzu

Once your plan is in place you just need to move. You first move doesn’t have to be huge. It may be to have a conversation. But until you take the first step you will remain stuck where you are.

So, take a small step and create a map.
